Meet the Brewer: Jerome Rebetez of BFM

We are excited to announce a visit to Beer Street by Jerome Rebetez, brewer and owner of Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes! Jerome is visiting from Switzerland and will be at Beer Street tomorrow, Sunday 12/2/12, from 2pm-3pm. We will be heating up bottles of his unique winter seasonal beer "La Dragonne", a spiced ale brewed to be served hot. A rare opportunity to meet this legendary brewmaster and try one of his most unique creations- hope to see you at Beer Street!

Beer Street, 413 Graham Ave, Brooklyn

Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes (BFM) is a small artisanal brewery in Jura, Switzerland whose products, including barrel-aged beers, have drawn international acclaim. Founded in 1997 by Jérôme Rebetez, who had formerly been trained as an oenologist, this tiny brewery has rapidly become known for making beers that stretch traditional beer style guidelines and use unorthodox ingredients.


Barrier Brewing Night at Beer Street

Monday October 15th at 7:30pm Beer Street will be hosting the brewers of Barrier beer and sampling some of their excellent brews. We'll sample four beers and hear about how they were brewed and the story of Barrier Brewing. Guests will also take home a 32oz growler of the Barrier beer of their choice! We'll be pouring "Oil City" India Black Ale, "SaazSquash!" Butternut Squash Ale, "Evil Giant" Rye IPA, and "Le Pete" Smoked Belgian Wheat. Hope you can join us!

KelSo Rare and Unusual Tasting

Monday September 24, at 7:30, Beer Street will be hosting a tasting of some special brews from Brooklyn's own KelSo Beer Company. Guests will sample three rarities and take home a 32oz growler of their choice, and one of KelSo's head brewers will be in the shop to give us the scoop on the beers. Here's the lineup:

KelSo Cabernet Barrel Aged IPA: an IPA (intense tropical fruit, malty, with a bone-dry finish with Nelson Sauvin hops) aged in Sylvain Cabernet Sauvignon wine barrels.
KelSo Rye Barrel Aged Begian Pale Ale: a Pale Ale fermented with Belgian yeast and aged in Rittenhouse Rye barrels.
KelSo FUKU: a beer brewed for the Momofuku restaurant group in Manhattan. Its a combination of Kolsch/wit/rauchbier with a touch of salt and sour malt. Smoky, minerally, fruity, salty, and dry.

Awesome stuff! Hope you can make it to Beer Street to try the beers and hear the brewer talk about the process of creating them... and then take your favorite one home!

Coney Island Night at Beer Street

Monday Sept. 10th Beer Street will be hosting our friends from Coney Island Brewery and Betty Bloomerz, sword swallower! There will be specialties from Coney Island on draft including "Barrel-Aged Human Blockhead" (10% doppelbock aged in Buffalo Trace whiskey barrels) and "Bottle of Smoke",  a lightly smoked saison that was brewed in a very small batch exclusively for this event- Monday night will be your only chance to try it! There will also be a sword swallowing show by Coney Island performer Betty Bloomerz, not to be missed!

Yo-Ho Brewing and Japanese Craft Beer

Saturday September 1, Beer Street will be featuring craft beer from Japan! Japan has a growing craft beer scene, and some of their finest offerings have made their way to the US. We've collected some excellent, rare brews on draft and in bottles and they'll be available all day (or til they run out!). There will also be sample pours of Yoho beers, with the importer in the shop from 2:30 to 4:30 to tell us about the beers and the brewery. Yo-Ho Brewing (http://www.yonasato.com/main.html) is based in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture. The Brewery Director, Toshiyuki Ishii, studied brewing techniques at Stone Brewing in southern California from 1998-2001. With the help of their importer, we'll be pouring samples of Yona Yona Pale Ale, Aooni IPA, and Tokyo Black Porter. We will also have beer from Kiuchi Brewery (Hitachino Nest beers) and Baird.

On July 1 Beer Street will celebrate its opening (finally!), with the help of three gypsy friends from Denmark. Brewmasters Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø (Evil Twin), Mikkel Borg Bjergsø (Mikkeller), and Tore Gynther (To Øl), will be hanging out and sharing some of their world class brews. We'll feature beers from all three breweries on draft and in bottles... and there will be BBQ!

Italian Beer Tasting Night
When: Wednesday 4/25/12, 7pm-9pm
What: Brewer Brooks Carretta visits Beer Street with samples of beers from a few Italian breweries, Birra del Borgo, Le Baladin and Del Ducato. Bottles and draft available for purchase. Free entry!

Our first in-store tasting is planned for Wednesday, April 25. We'll be featuring some very special Italian brews, and Brooks Carretta will be in the shop to chat about the beers and the brewing revolution happening in Italy. Brooks formerly brewed at Birra del Borgo in Borgorose, Italy, and is currently the head brewer of Birreria at Eataly (a Manhattan brewpub collaboration between Birra del Borgo, Le Baladin, and Dogfish Head breweries). He'll be pouring samples from Birra del Borgo, Del Ducato and Le Baladin, and beers from all the breweries will be in bottle and on draft for growler fills (while they last!). It will be a great privilege for us to have Brooks in the shop and to sample these excellent brews, and we hope you can join us. Salute!</description>
